ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks for its third straight win after a thrilling 61-56 win over Northern Illinois on Wednesday night with a Saturday home contest versus Western Michigan. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
NEW YEAR, NEW RESULTS: The RedHawks are 6-7 on the year, already surpassing last year's win total (went 4-20 last season).Â
BUSY SCHEDULE: With several postponements over the past few weeks, the RedHawks have a rather busy schedule coming up. The RedHawks are currently in the middle of a six-game stretch in a span of 13 days.
MAC DROUGHT: A win on Saturday would be Miami's third straight conference win, something the RedHawks have not accomplished since the 2019-20 season, capturing wins over Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Toledo from Feb. 1 through Feb. 5, 2019.
REDHAWKS HOLD OFF NIU: Ivy Wolf scored 18 points and
Maddi Cluse added all 15 of her points after intermission as the Miami women's basketball team held off Northern Illinois 61-56 Wednesday night at Millett Hall. The RedHawks allowed a season-low 56 points and scored the final six points of the game to edge the Huskies for their second straight win.
PERFECT EVENING: In the win over the Huskies, the RedHawks were a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. The last time Miami was perfect from the line, while also attempting at least 10 free throws, was back on Jan. 13, 2016 versus Toledo (10-of-10).
DON'T COUNT THEM OUT: In each of the past two conference wins, the RedHawks erased fourth-quarter deficits. Miami trailed 42-40 versus Ohio (outscored OU by five in fourth quarter) and 43-42 against NIU (outscored NIU by six in fourth quarter).
BALANCING ACT: While
Peyton Scott (17.7) is getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 4.3 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.
NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has six additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all,
Ivy Wolf,
Maddi Cluse,
Edyn Battle,
Tajah Foster-Walker,
Jordan Tuff and
Katey Richason are combining for 36.9 points and 18.9 rebounds per game.
ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN: The Broncos are 9-4 on the year and 3-1 in conference play and are coming off a 62-57 win on Wednesday over Eastern Michigan. Sophomore Lauren Ross leads the team at 20.8 points per game, while Taylor Williams nearly averages a double-double at 11.5 points and 8.5 boards per contest.
SERIES WITH THE BRONCOS: This will be the 67th meeting between the two schools with the series tied at 33-33. Miami is 21-13 all-time at home and has won three of the last four contests versus the Broncos.
GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard
Peyton Scott has accomplished more than most through just over two years of play.
• Has scored 1,124 points and ranks 21st all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• She currently ranks eighth in the MAC in scoring (17.7), 15th in rebounding (6.4), seventh in assists (4.2), seventh in field goal percentage (.448), eighth in steals (1.8) and 22nd in three-point percentage (.333).
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 44 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (5) then under 10 point games (3).
• She has scored in double figures in 35 of her last 37 contests.
GOING TO BATTLE: Over Miami's last nine games, the RedHawks have started to lean more on
Edyn Battle. Battle, who played just one game a year ago before suffering a season-ending injury, has surpassed double-digits five different times in her last nine games, including a  career-high 18 points in the win over Ohio on Monday.
A DAY FOR DAVIDSON: Sophomore guard
Katie Davidson missed the first handful of games, but recently seems to have found last year's scoring touch. After scoring just 25 points (5.0 avg.) in her first five games, Davidson has netted 40 points (8.0 avg.) in the last five. Most recently, Davidson had a season-high 17 points in the win over Ohio.
