ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks for its second straight win after downing Ohio 63-60 on Monday Night with a Wednesday home contest versus Northern Illinois. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
NEW YEAR, NEW RESULTS: The RedHawks are 5-7 on the year, already surpassing last year's win total (went 4-20 last season).Â
BUSY SCHEDULE: With several postponements over the past few weeks, the RedHawks have a rather busy schedule coming up. The RedHawks are currently at the beginning stretch of six games in a 13-day span.
REDHAWKS WIN BATTLE OF THE BRICKS: Edyn Battle poured in a career-high 18 points and handed out a career-best five assists to help the Miami women's basketball team edge Ohio 63-60 in a thriller Monday night at Millett Hall.
Katie Davidson added season-highs of 17 points and nine rebounds for the RedHawks, while
Peyton Scott chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds. Davidson had 14 points after intermission, with Scott scoring 13 in the second half.Â
BALANCING ACT: While
Peyton Scott (18.3) is getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 4.1 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.
NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has six additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all,
Ivy Wolf,
Maddi Cluse,
Edyn Battle,
Tajah Foster-Walker,
Jordan Tuff and
Katey Richason are combining for 37.6 points and 18.7 rebounds per game.
ABOUT NIU: The Huskies are 4-8 on the year and 1-3 in conference play, including a 73-52 loss versus Toledo last Saturday. Chelby Koker leads the team offensively at 17.2 points per game, while A'jah Davis is averaging a double-double at 15.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.
SERIES WITH THE HUSKIES: This will be the 44th meeting between the two programs, with NIU holding a slight 23-20 advantage in the all-time series. NIU won both contests a year ago, including an 87-79 game on Jan. 16, 2021 in Oxford, Ohio when
Peyton Scott threatened a quadruple-double, finishing with 34 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and seven assists.
GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard
Peyton Scott has accomplished more than most through just over two years of play.
• Has scored 1,114 points and ranks 21st all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• She currently ranks seventh in the MAC in scoring (18.3), 12th in rebounding (6.6), fourth in assists (4.5), sixth in field goal percentage (.451), eighth in steals (1.8) and 22nd in three-point percentage (.346).
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 44 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (5) then under 10 point games (3).
GOING TO BATTLE: Over Miami's last eight games, the RedHawks have started to lean more on
Edyn Battle. Battle, who played just one game a year ago before suffering a season-ending injury, has surpassed double-digits five different times in her last eight games, including a  career-high 18 points in the win over Ohio on Monday.
A DAY FOR DAVIDSON: Sophomore guard
Katie Davidson missed the first handful of games, but recently seems to have found last year's scoring touch. After scoring just 25 points (5.0 avg.) in her first five games, Davidson has netted 37 points (9.3 avg.) in the last four. Most recently, Davidson had a season-high 17 points in the win over Ohio.
