ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks to snap a four-game losing streak on Monday, Jan. 17 with a home contest versus Ohio. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
NEW YEAR, NEW RESULTS: The RedHawks are 4-7 on the year, already matching last year's win total (went 4-20 last season). Miami got its fourth win of the season last year on Feb. 27.
BUSY SCHEDULE: With several postponements over the past few weeks, the RedHawks have a rather busy schedule coming up. From Jan. 17-29, the RedHawks play six games in a span of 13 days.
REDHAWKS FALL TO ZIPS: The Miami women's basketball team got 13 points from
Peyton Scott and 11 from
Ivy Wolf, but the visiting Akron Zips used a 24-6 run over the late second and early third quarters to get past the RedHawks 66-53 last Wednesday at Millett Hall. Scott added a team-high seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for Miami.
BALANCING ACT: While
Peyton Scott (18.6) is getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 4.6 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.
NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has six additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all,
Ivy Wolf,
Maddi Cluse,
Edyn Battle,
Tajah Foster-Walker,
Jordan Tuff and
Katey Richason are combining for 36.3 points and 17.1 rebounds per game.
ABOUT OHIO: The Bobcats are 8-4 overall and 2-1 in Mid-American Conference play and are led by Cece Hooks (22.7 ppg), Erica Johnson (18.6 ppg) and Gabby Burris (14.8 ppg). Hooks also leads the team with 7.7 rebounds per game and has attempted 112 free throws this year (Miami as a team has attempted 125).
SERIES WITH THE BOBCATS: This will be the 92nd meeting between the two programs, with Miami holding a 56-35 advantage, but the Bobcats have won the last five meetings, including a pair of wins last year. Miami's last win in this series was Jan. 30, 2019 (67-61) in Athens. The RedHawks have not won at Millett Hall since Jan. 27, 2018.
GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard
Peyton Scott has accomplished more than most through just over two years of play.
• Has scored 1,089 points and ranks 22ND all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• She currently ranks seventh in the MAC in scoring (18.6), 13th in rebounding (6.5), fourth in assists (4.5), sixth in field goal percentage (.458), ninth in steals (1.9) and 19th in three-point percentage (.354).
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 43 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (5) then under 10 point games (3).
CLUSE ENOUGH: Freshman
Maddi Cluse is coming off arguably her best game as a RedHawk, scoring 17 points, while adding eight rebounds versus Buffalo. In her young career she has already scored in double-digits four different occasions and had a career-high 11 rebounds against Western Kentucky.
GOING TO BATTLE: Over Miami's last seven games, the RedHawks have started to lean more on
Edyn Battle. Battle, who played just one game a year ago before suffering a season-ending injury, has surpassed double-digits four different times in her last seven games.
