Miami Pushes Past Rider 3-1, Earns First Victory

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami field hockey team used a big fourth quarter to top the Rider Broncs 3-1. The win results in Miami's first win on the season in a game the RedHawks appeared to be in control the entirety of the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The RedHawks led the Broncos 3-1 in shots and 4-1 in corners but were unable to capitalize in a physical defensive first quarter, leaving the score 0-0.
  • In the second quarter during a penalty corner with 12:29 left, Lexie Nugent put Miami ahead 1-0 off of a rebound assisted by Carlie Servis.
  • Miami threatened with three straight corners with four minutes left in the second quarter but was unable to cash in, keeping the score 1-0 RedHawks at halftime.
  • Rider scored to even the game at 1-1 on its second shot of the third quarter with 8:10 remaining.
  • Claudia Negrete Garcia scored two quick goals within a minute at 8:07 left in the fourth quarter to put the RedHawks back on top 3-1. The first goal was unassisted and the second was assisted by Luli Rosso and Jenna Kirby.
  • Miami led the way in shots and corners, 17-6 and 12-4 respectively.

Miami returns to the field in Columbus, Ohio at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 6 to battle Ohio State. The game will be aired on BTN+.
