
RedHawks Fall in Three Sets at Duke

DURHAM, N.C.—The Miami University volleyball team (1-4) dropped a three-set match to Duke University on Friday night in its second match of the Duke Invitational (5-0) at Cameron Indoor Stadium, 15-25, 26-28, 16-25.

Miami rounds out its stint at the Duke Invitational with a 12 p.m. match against Howard on Saturday, Sept. 4.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The teams went back and forth in the early goings of the first set, but Duke pulled ahead to an 18-10 advantage after a 4-0 flurry and went on to capture the opening set, 25-15.
- Miami opened up a quick 3-1 lead in the first set, but Duke forged ahead to notch a 12-8 lead. The RedHawks chiseled away and knotted the set at 21-21. The teams traded punches until the Blue Devils inched out the 28-26 win in the second set.
- It was a tight battle again early on in the third set. A service ace from junior Lindsay Taylor and a kill from junior Allyson Severance handed Miami a 10-8 advantage. Duke scored five unanswered points and did not trail again as the Blue Devils clinched the match with a 25-16 win in the third set.

NOTES:
- Senior Gaby Harper led the RedHawks with eight kills.
- Sophomore Taylor Nomanson added a team-leading 15 digs, while senior Sophie Riemersma notched three blocks.
- Taylor tallied two of the RedHawks' three service aces for the match.
