Oxford, Ohio — The Miami University field hockey team defeated the Longwood Lancers 3-0 on Friday afternoon. The game was a defensive battle that saw the RedHawks capitalize on their offensive chances. Miami improves to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference, while Longwood falls to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter was a defensive battle that saw both teams earn a penalty corner and Longwood lead in shots 1-0 while the game remained scoreless 0-0.
- The RedHawks kept the ball in the Longwood half of the field for the majority of the second quarter in what remained a tight defensive battle.
- With 27 seconds left in the first half, Kennedy Vinson put the RedHawks on the scoreboard off of a goal that resulted from a penalty corner. The goal was Vinson's first of the year and made the score 1-0 Miami at the half. Miami also led in penalty corners and shots 2-1.
- Becca Kline scored a quick second-half goal for the RedHawks off of an assist from Claudia Negrete Garcia with 13:30 left in the third quarter. Making the score 2-0 Miami.
- Miami's Paula Pena perfectly placed a shot into the bottom left corner of the cage from the top of the circle off of an assist from Becca Kline putting the RedHawks ahead 3-0 with just under 12 minutes to play.
- The last half of the fourth quarter was a defensive battle much like the first quarter. Miami finished the game leading in shots 6-2 and penalty corners 4-3.
