- Following Butler's sack, Miami took possession at their own 15 yard line and moved quickly and aggressively down the field, picking up 80 passing yards and earning their second touchdown of the game with a handoff to Kevin Davis. Davis's first career touchdown gave the RedHawks a 14-7 lead.
- Two drives later, Miami gained another touchdown after a 16-yard pass from Gabbert to Jalen Walker, securing a 21-7 lead for the RedHawks at the end of the first half.
