CINCINNATI, Ohio—The Miami University volleyball team (2-7) dropped at three-set decision at Xavier University (5-5) on Friday evening at the Cintas Center, 19-25, 11-25, 19-25.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Gaby Harper notched the first point of the match with a kill, but the Musketeers built an early 8-3 lead in the opening set. Miami closed within three late in the stanza off a sophomore Abby Stratford kill, 17-20, but Xavier went on to claim the first set, 25-19.
- Xavier took a quick 4-1 lead in the second set. Miami used a 4-0 surge, capped by a freshman Margo Lawson service ace, to battle back and knot the stanza, 8-8. After the teams were tied at 9-9, Xavier forged ahead to take the second set, 25-11.
- Spurred by a pair of freshman Brooke Cirigliano kills, Miami jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the third set. The teams went back and forth until the Musketeers used a 7-1 run to push ahead to a 17-11 advantage and eventually took the third set, 25-19.
NOTES:
- Redshirt sophomore Karolina Kugiel saw the first action of her Miami career.
- Lawson made her first start at libero.

Miami returns home to host Cincinnati at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18. Fans attending the Miami football game on Saturday afternoon may receive free admission to the volleyball match by showing their football ticket at the Millett Hall Ticket Office.
