Miami University's baseball team recently added three new coaches to its staff. Kyle Weldon, a 2012 Miami Graduate, will join the Miami Baseball staff along with Jeff Opalewski and Bailey Montgomery.
Â
Weldon was a member of the baseball team from 2008-2011. During his time at Miami, he was named to the 2011 First Team All-MAC, while his team finished as MAC tournament runner-ups. The season prior Weldon was named an NSCA Strength & Conditioning All-American. In his post-playing career, he has seen coaching stops at Mason High School, the Cincinnati Steam, and Midwest Athletic. More recently Weldon was a co-founder and Director of Hitting at ALPHA Baseball, where he worked with hitters to help bridge the gap between data and players.
Â
Opalewski, a 2005 Central Michigan University graduate, joins the team as the pitching coach. A Cleveland Indians draft pick, Opalewski has a wealth of experience, having served in numerous capacities at his alma mater. Most recently Opalewski served as the Pitching Coordinator at IMG Academy. While at IMG, Opalewski led a team of eight pitching coaches as he helped 48 pitchers advance to the collegiate level and also developed a pitching manual for the academy. At Central Michigan his squads won two MAC titles, four MAC West Division Championships, while also helping 19 pitchers either become drafted or sign professional contracts.
Â
Montgomery is a 2019 Western Illinois University graduate. Prior to his time at Western Illinois, Montgomery went to a Junior College World Series at Wabash Valley College in 2017, where they finished in third. Since finishing his playing career, Montgomery has served in numerous coaching roles, most recently with Butler University as an assistant coach. He also served as a Head Baseball Coach for the Lafayette Aviators, an assistant coach for Wabash Valley, and an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves.
