Field Hockey Rolls Past Richmond, 3-0

Richmond, Vir.— The Miami University field hockey team got on the board early in the first quarter and that fueled them for the rest of the game in a 3-0 win over Richmond on Sunday afternoon. The RedHawks offense had its best showing of the season and tallied a season-high three goals. Miami improves to 2-5 and Richmond falls to 0-5.        Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami got on the scoreboard early with 13:55 in the first quarter off of a goal by Taylor Curran. Curran deflected the shot into the net giving the RedHawks a 1-0 advantage.
- The RedHawks controlled the majority of the first quarter leading Richmond in shots 7-0 and in penalty corners 1-0.
- Richmond threatened on a penalty corner with 3:40 left in the first half but Isabelle Perese made an incredible swat save to keep the RedHawks ahead 1-0.
- At the half, Miami's 1-0 advantage remained as well as a 7-4 shot advantage, but the Spiders had a 2-1 edge in penalty corners
- After three straight penalty corners, Lexi Nugent added to the RedHawks lead, giving Miami a 2-0 lead with just under four minutes to go in the third quarter.
- Claudia Negrete Garcia kept the RedHawks rolling with 1:09 left in the third quarter off of a backhand shot to extend the RedHawks lead to 3-0.
- The fourth quarter was very back and forth and saw Perese making three key saves to help secure the RedHawks victory. Miami led the Spiders in shots 17-9 and 7-3 in penalty corners.
