
Webb Selected by Boston Red Sox in 14th Round of MLB Draft

Jacob Webb, a senior on the Miami University baseball team, was selected in the 14th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft by the Boston Red Sox.

"When I got the call, my heart dropped," said Webb. "I just looked at my parents and gave them both a big hug."

The right-hand pitcher had a 2.08 earned run average in 18 appearances this past season, recording 59 strikeouts in 39.0 innings pitched. He picked up his lone win, striking out 10 batters in 5.0 innings back on March 20 versus Toledo.

"Miami developed me as an athlete but they also helped me become an ever better person," said Webb. "I am extremely thankful for everything Miami has given me and I can't thank them enough."

Webb, a native of Fairborn, Ohio, finished his career with a 2.90 ERA. He recorded 72 strikeouts in 49.2 innings pitched during his Miami career.
