JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On the final day of competition at the NCAA East Region Preliminary, the RedHawks saw another Miami University track and field competitor punch a ticket to nationals. Olivia Bechtel clinched a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400m when she posted a time of 51.93 to take eleventh in the competition. Bechtel also competed in the 200 meter quarterfinal on Saturday night, taking 23rd after finishing in 23.59 seconds.
This is Bechtel's first career nationals appearance. She is the second Miami competitor to advance to nationals this weekend, joining Finley Mclear, who clinched in yesterday's 800-meter event.
Also in action for the Red & White on Saturday was Carmen Riano, who finished 33rd in the 3000m steeplechase after clocking 10:34.76. She ends her impressive rookie outdoor campaign on a high note after placing 11th in the first heat.
The RedHawks' outdoor season is not finished yet, as Bechtel and Mclear will head to Eugene for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships June 9-12.
