RedHawks Fall to Ball State in Saturday Doubleheader

MUNCIE, Ind. —  Despite a strong outing on the mound from Sam Bachman, the Miami University baseball team eventually fell 1-0 and 12-2 to the Ball State Cardinals in a Saturday doubleheader. The RedHawks fall to 25-29 (18-20 Mid-American Conference), while Ball State improves to 36-18 (27-11 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the series-opening game, the RedHawks and Cardinals engaged in a pitching duel. However, the Cardinals won the game on a walk-off single in the seventh to get the 1-0 victory.
  • The Cardinals jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in game two. Nate Stone drove home Billy Kopicki to get the RedHawks on the board in the top of the third. In the top of the sixth, junior Cole Andrews homered to left to add another tally to the score sheet for Miami, but the RedHawks couldn't catch up to Ball State with the final score at 12-2.

MIAMI GAME NOTES:

  • Sam Bachman had a complete game on the mound in game one, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just one run and amassing nine strikeouts.
  • Will Vogelgesang went 2-for-3 in the first game. Andrews was the highlight for the Red and White in game two, going 2-for-4 at the plate, including a home run.
