Vierstra Perfect as Miami Tops BGSU, 9-0

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Senior Courtney Vierstra threw her third perfect game of the season, while the RedHawk offense scored nine runs as the Miami University softball team seized a 9-0, five-inning win at Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon. Miami improves to 36-8 overall and 26-2 in Mid-American Conference action, while the Falcons drop to 21-25 overall and 13-18 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Miami jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. The offensive surge included a two-run double by senior Morgan Lott and RBI singles from freshman Holly Blaska, junior Riley Coyne and junior Allie Cummins.
  • Coyne doubled to center field to plate Blaska in the top of the second to extend the RedHawk lead to 8-0.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, senior Jada Dotson hit a solo home run over the right field fence to further the RedHawk lead to 9-0, which would be the final margin.
  • Vierstra was fierce in the circle for Miami, not allowing any of the 15 batters she faced to reach base in 5.0 innings of work, while striking out five.
  • At the plate, Coyne went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI, while Lott also went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
