TOLEDO, Ohio—An eight-run first inning spurred the Miami University softball team to a 14-0 win at the University of Toledo on Saturday afternoon. The RedHawks improve to 30-7 on the season and 20-1 in Mid-American Conference play, while Toledo drops to 19-15 overall and 9-9 in MAC action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• A two-run triple by senior Mackenzie Moore and two-run double by freshman Holly Blaska—her second extra base hit of the inning—to go along with an RBI double by senior Lily Wilmot and RBI single from junior Allie Cummins propelled Miami to an explosive eight-run first inning.
• Junior Riley Coyne blasted a two-run home run to center field in the third inning to push the RedHawks' lead to 10-0.
• Moore hammered a two-run homer to left field to tack on two more runs to the Miami total and extend its lead to 12-0 in the fourth inning.
• Miami notched two more runs when Blaska and senior Morgan Lott crossed home on a fielding error to hand the RedHawks a 14-0 edge in the fifth inning, which would be the final margin.

 
NOTES:

• Lott and Wilmot were each 2-for-2 at the plate, while Blaska and Moore were each 2-for-3. Moore notched four RBI to lead the RedHawks. Blaska, Moore, Coyne, Lott and junior Maclai Branson each scored two runs.
• Senior Courtney Vierstra pitched 3.0 innings of the shutout, giving up just two hits while striking out six to earn the win in the circle. Freshman Taylor Turner entered the game in relief to pitch the final 2.0 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out two.
