Field Hockey Finishes Regular Season with 3-0 Win

MUNCIE, Ind. — The Miami University field hockey team (12-1, 10-0 Mid-American Conference) shut out Ball State by a 3-0 margin on Saturday in the regular season finale. Miami ends the regular season 10-0 in MAC action, which is the second time in program history the RedHawks went undefeated in conference play.

Senior Allie Grace Joyner recorded two of Miami's three goals in the road victory, while sophomore Luli Rosso scored the other. With just one save in the road match, sophomore Isabelle Perese recorded her third straight shutout, not allowing a goal in the last 146:24 of action on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • 11:07 | Joyner got the ball from Neely Lochmoeller's penalty corner, and ripped the ball in to give the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead.
  • 21:03 | Rosso bounced the ball in past the Ball State goalkeeper, and sniped a shot into the open cage to give Miami the 2-0 lead in the second quarter.
  • 48:39 | Just like her first goal, Joyner scored with the ball from Madison Workman's penalty corner and made it a 3-0 game in the fourth quarter with her second goal of the game.

MIAMI GAME NOTES:

  • Like all season, the RedHawks outshot the opposing Cardinals, 20-2, including a 13-1 margin for shots on goal.
  • The RedHawks also had six penalty corners, while Ball State had two.
  • To end the season, Miami outscored the opposition by a whopping 43-9 mark, with the 'Hawks averaging more than three goals per game in the spring 2021 season.

WHAT'S NEXT:

The RedHawks end the regular season but clinched the automatic bid for the NCAA tournament after winning the conference this season. Miami awaits the announcement of the opponent and location during the NCAA selection show, which takes place at 10 p.m. (ET) Saturday, April 24.
