CONWAY, S.C. — Continuing its stint at the Baseball at the Beach Tournament, the Miami University baseball team (5-5) fell 5-3 to Coastal Carolina University (7-2) on Saturday. The Miami University RedHawks allowed three home runs, including a three-run home run that gave the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers the 5-3 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, the RedHawks allowed two solo home runs to let the Chanticleers get out to a 2-0 lead.
- The RedHawks answered back in the top of the fifth inning when senior shortstop Tyler Wardwell hit a two-run home run to even things up 2-2.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Chanticleers would jump out to a three-run lead after a three-run home run gave them a 5-2 lead over the RedHawks.
- It seemed as if the RedHawks were going to mount a comeback; they would score one run in the top of the seventh inning after a leadoff home run by senior catcher Nate Stolze gave the RedHawks some life. The game would ultimately stay 5-3, allowing the Chanticleers to come away with the win.
GAME NOTES:
- Senior shortstop Tyler Wardwell was 2-for-4 with two hits, including the two-run home run that gave him two RBI on the day.
- Senior catcher Nate Stolze was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk.
- Benji Brokemond was 0-for-1 but reached base in his other three plate appearances by way of two walks and a catcher's interference call.
- On the mound, senior right-handed pitcher Jacob Webb came in to relieve starter Jonathan Brand, allowing no hits and striking out five opposing hitters over 2.1 innings of work.

The RedHawks continue the weekend in South Carolina with a single game against Davidson College on Sunday. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in Conway.
