CONWAY, S.C. — Opening its stint at the Baseball at the Beach tournament, the Miami University baseball team (5-4) dropped a 5-0 decision to the University of Connecticut (3-4) on Friday afternoon. The Miami University RedHawks would surrender three of the five runs scored early in the game, and it was all the Huskies needed.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Huskies put three runs on the board in the third inning and tacked on additional runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Huskies put an exclamation point on things, extending their lead once more, making it 5-0. A leadoff walk would turn into an RBI for the Huskies, who drove in the runner on a one-out double.
GAME NOTES:
- Redshirt freshman outfielder Nate Stone continued his tear at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
- Redshirt senior pitcher Grant Hartwig registered four strong innings for the RedHawks, allowing one unearned run, walking just one, and striking out three.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The RedHawks continue the weekend in South Carolina with a single game against Coastal Carolina University on Saturday. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Conway.
