RedHawks Face Buffalo on Wednesday

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team travels to face the Buffalo Bulls on Wednesday, March 3 at 5 p.m.

ABOUT BUFFALO: The Bulls are 12-8 on the year and 9-6 in Mid-American Conference play, good enough for sixth place in the league standings. UB averages 74.4 points per game and are led by Dyaisha Fair, who averages 24.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.

ROUND TWO WITH THE BULLS: Peyton Scott led all scorers with 26 points and seven rebounds, while freshman Katie Davidson chipped in 13 points, but it wasn't enough as the RedHawks fell 75-67 back on Jan. 2.

SERIES WITH BUFFALO: Miami is 20-24 all-time versus the Bulls. Buffalo won three matchups a year ago, including a MAC Tournament contest and have won 11 straight over the Red and White. Miami's last win over Buffalo was Jan. 23, 2016.

SCORING MACHINE: Over her last seven games, Peyton Scott has scored at least 25 points in six of those contests. Her lone blemish, a seven-point effort at Toledo, was a contest the RedHawks won, 62-60. Over her last seven games, the sophomore is averaging 28.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.2 steals. She is also shooting 52.5 percent (75-141) from the floor and 43.3% from behind the arc (13-30).

SENIOR MOMENT: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 249 points and recorded 142 rebounds in 20 games, averaging career best in points (12.5), rebounds (7.1) and shooting percentage (53.8%).

LAST TIME OUT: Sophomore Peyton Scott's three-pointer at the buzzer gave Miami a 61-58 victory last Saturday afternoon over the Kent State Golden Flashes. Scott finished the game with 25 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, while senior Kelly McLaughlin had 21 points. Miami also celebrated senior day, honoring Abbey Hoff, McLaughlin and Kenzie Schmitz prior to the contest.

NO RESERVES: Miami has played much of the season with an extremely thin roster, competing much of the year with a max of 10 players due to, opt outs and injuries. In 22 games this season Miami has used eight different starting lineups and just Peyton Scott and Katie Davidson have started every contest.

GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 21.8 points and 6.9 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 5.2 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. She ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring (21.8), 10th in rebounding (6.9), first in assists (5.2), fifth in steals (2.7), 10th in field goal percentage (44.3%) and seventh in free throw percentage (83.3%).

LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FLOOR: Peyton Scott also ranks second in the MAC in minutes played (37.7), but even that doesn't tell the entire story. Over her last 16 games, the sophomore has played 483 of 500 available minutes. She has played all 40 minutes in 11 of 22 games this year. In all, she has played 830 minutes this year. The next closest in the MAC is Sophia Wiard (UT) with 782 minutes played.

REWRITING HISTORY: Peyton Scott's attack on the record has kept Miami's SID busy in 2020-21.
* She now owns four top-10 scoring performances all-time at Miami, with 34 points versus NIU and Kent State, 37 points against Western Michigan and 39 versus Ball State.
* She made 15 field goals against the Cardinals, which is the most in school history.
* She became the first RedHawk in school history to score at least 30 points in four-straight games and matched a Miami record with Courtney Osborn with 71 points in a two-game stretch. Even the great Wally Szczerbiak only scored 67 points in back-to-back games during his incredible NCAA Tournament run in 1998-99.
* Earlier this year she had 13 assists at Ball State, which is tops in school history.
* Her season average of 21.8 points would rank first all-time at Miami, just ahead of Amanda Jackson's 21.6 average during the 2007-08 campaign.
* Scott is on pace to finish her first two seasons at Miami with a combined 900 points. Only Lauren Dickerson (1,146) and Courtney Osborn (1,033) have scored more points in their first two years at Miami.
