ON TAP: Miami looks to get back on track with a Wednesday contest versus Central Michigan. The Feb. 10 game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m. inside Millett Hall.
SCOTT NAMED MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Peyton Scott averaged 35.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 4.5 steals, shot 61.4 percent (27-of-44) from the floor and was 15-of-16 (93.8 percent) from the free throw line over the past week. Versus Western Michigan she scored a career-high 37 points and added 10 rebounds, helping the RedHawks to a 73-64 win. She followed that up with a 34-point performance in a two-point loss at MAC leading Kent State.
HONORING HISTORY: Miami will wear special jerseys on Wednesday as Miami and the Myaamia Tribe continue to foster great relationships. Over the past several years at Miami University, the Athletics department has developed a strong partnership with the Myaamia
Center, another outcome of the almost 50-year relationship between the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and Miami University. The partnership began with education within Miami athletics and grew as they began to use the Myaamia Heritage Logo (MHL), a design released in 2017 that visually represents the relationship between the Miami Tribe and Miami University. LAST TIME OUT: A gritty effort amidst a dramatic finish came up just short as the Miami University women's basketball team was edged at Kent State University, 71-69.
Peyton Scott was 14-of-25 from the floor and amassed 34 points to lead all players. As a team, Miami had a season-low eight turnovers.
ABOUT CENTRAL MICHIGAN: The Chippewas are 11-6 overall and 9-4 in conference play, while averaging 76.8 points per contest. CMU has won four of their last five games and are led by one of the best duos in the country. Micaela Kelly (22.2 ppg.) and Molly Davis (20.0) combine for 42.2 points per contest. Davis also leads the team with 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.
SERIES WITH THE CHIPPEWAS: This is the 67th meeting between the two schools with CMU holding a slight 34-32 advantage. The Chippewas have won the last three meetings and 12 of the last 13. Miami's last win in Oxford over CMU was back on Feb. 7, 2009.
DON'T LET THE RECORD FOOL YOU: While the season has not gone as planned for the RedHawks, they are playing their best basketball of the season currently. In its last 16 quarters, Miami has outscored/tied its opponent in 10 of those quarters.
NO RESERVES: Miami has played much of the season with an extremely thin roster, competing much of the year with a max of 10 players due to opt outs and injuries. In 17 games this season, Miami has used eight different starting lineups and just
Peyton Scott and
Katie Davidson have started every contest.
GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 20.6 points and 6.6 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 5.3 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. She ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring (20.6), 10th in rebounding (6.6), first in assists (5.3), fifth in steals (2.7), 11th in field goal percentage (41.4%) and sixth in free throw percentage (85.5%).
LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FLOOR: Peyton Scott also ranks second in the MAC in minutes played (37.8), but even that doesn't tell the entire story. Over her last 10 games, the sophomore has played 395 of 400 available minutes. In all, she has played all 40 minutes in eight of 17 games this year.
REWRITING HISTORY: Peyton Scott's attack on the record has kept Miami's SID busy in 2020-21.
* She now owns three top-10 scoring performances all-time at Miami, with 34 points versus NIU and Kent State and 37 points against Western Michigan. In the contest with the Huskies and Golden Flashes she made 14 field goals, which ranks first in Miami history.
* In her past two games, she has scored 71 points, tied for most in a two-game stretch in Miami history. Courtney Osborn scored 71 points on Jan. 4 & 7, 2012. Even the great Wally Szczerbiak only scored 67 points in back-to-back games during his incredible NCAA Tournament run in 1998-99.
* Earlier this year she had 13 assists at Ball State, which is tops in school history.
* Her season average of 20.6 points would rank second all-time at Miami, behind just Amanda Jackson's 21.6 average during the 2007-08 campaign.
* Scott is on pace to finish her first two seasons at Miami with a combined 870 points. Only
Lauren Dickerson (1,146) and Courtney Osborn (1,033) have scored more points in their first two years at Miami.
SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 161 points and recorded 99 rebounds in 15 games.
