'Hawks Host Flashes on Senior Day

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team hosts Kent State on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. The contest will also be Senior Day for the RedHawks.

SENIOR MOMENTS: On Saturday, the RedHawks will honor three seniors: Abbey Hoff, Kelly McLaughlin and Kenzie Schmitz. Combined, the trio has scored 1,110 points and pulled down 744 rebounds.

ABOUT KENT STATE: The Flashes are 10-6 on the year and 9-4 in Mid-American Conference play, good enough for second place in the league standings. KSU averages 69.7 points per game and are led by Nila Blackford, who averages 15.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest.

ROUND TWO WITH THE FLASHES: These two teams squared-off back on Feb. 6 with KSU coming away with a 71-69 victory. Peyton Scott amassed 34 points to lead all scorers, and Tihanna Fulton chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.

SERIES WITH KSU: This is the 95th meeting between the two schools with Kent State holding a slight 48-46 advantage in the all-time series. KSU has won the last four, and Miami's last victory in Oxford was back on Jan. 26, 2019.

SCORING MACHINE: Over her last six games, Peyton Scott has scored at least 27 points in five of those contests. Her lone blemish, a seven-point effort at Toledo, was a contest the RedHawks won, 62-60. Over her last six games, the sophomore is averaging 29.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals. She is also shooting 52.8 percent (67-127) from the floor.

LAST TIME OUT: Miami is coming off an 84-63 loss at home to the Akron Zips on Wednesday. Peyton Scott had 27 points and senior Kelly McLaughlin added 12 points and nine rebounds.

NO RESERVES: Miami has played much of the season with an extremely thin roster, competing much of the year with a max of 10 players due to opt outs and injuries. In 21 games this season, Miami has used eight different starting lineups and just Peyton Scott and Katie Davidson have started every contest.

GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 21.6 points and 6.6 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 5.0 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. She ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring (21.6), 10th in rebounding (6.6), second in assists (5.0), sixth in steals (2.6), 13th in field goal percentage (42.8%) and seventh in free throw percentage (83.5%).

LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FLOOR: Peyton Scott also ranks second in the MAC in minutes played (37.6), but even that doesn't tell the entire story. Over her last 15 games, the sophomore has played 443 of 460 available minutes. In all, she has played all 40 minutes in 10 of 21 games this year.

REWRITING HISTORY: Peyton Scott's attack on the record has kept Miami's SID busy in 2020-21.
* She now owns four top-10 scoring performances all-time at Miami, with 34 points versus NIU and Kent State, 37 points against Western Michigan and 39 versus Ball State.
* She made 15 field goals against the Cardinals, which is the most in school history.
* She became the first RedHawk in school history to score at least 30 points in four-straight games and matched a Miami record with Courtney Osborn with 71 points in a two-game stretch. Even the great Wally Szczerbiak only scored 67 points in back-to-back games during his incredible NCAA Tournament run in 1998-99.
* Earlier this year she had 13 assists at Ball State, which is tops in school history.
* Her season average of 21.6 points would rank first all-time at Miami, tied with Amanda Jackson's 21.6 average during the 2007-08 campaign.
* Scott is on pace to finish her first two seasons at Miami with a combined 900 points. Only Lauren Dickerson (1,146) and Courtney Osborn (1,033) have scored more points in their first two years at Miami.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 228 points and recorded 138 rebounds in 19 games.
