ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team hosts Akron on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Contest is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. as the RedHawks look for its second straight win.
STREAK SNAPPED: Peyton Scott is coming off a contest in which she scored just seven points versus the Rockets last Wednesday. Prior to that, the sophomore had score at least 30 points in four straight games, the first RedHawk to ever accomplish that feat. Even with the seven-point outing, Scott is averaging 29.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.9 steals over her last five games.
DON'T LET THE RECORD FOOL YOU: While the season has not gone as planned for the RedHawks, they are playing their best basketball of the season currently. In its last 28 quarters, Miami has outscored/tied its opponent in 17 of those quarters. Miami has led at halftime in six straight games and prior to the win over Toledo Miami had lost its last three games by a combined seven points.
SHOOTING FOR A CURE: On Wednesday, Miami will raise awareness for ALS in honor of Steve Garrelts, the father of junior point guard
Vannessa Garrelts. Steve was diagnosed with ALS back in 2014 and lost his battle with ALS on March 24, 2020. For more information on this cause or to donate, click

LAST TIME OUT: For the past two weeks the Miami University women's basketball team leaned heavily on sophomore guard
Peyton Scott, but last Wednesday night, it was
Kelly McLaughlin's and
Katie Davidson's time to shine as the RedHawks downed the Toledo Rockets 62-60 on Wednesday night inside Savage Hall. McLaughlin had her third double-double of the season with 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Red and White. Davidson added 21 points, including 7-of-7 from the free throw line.Â
ABOUT AKRON: Akron is 5-12 on the year and 2-12 in Mid-American Conference play. The Zips average 67.1 points per game and are led by Jordyn Dawson, who averages 16.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
ROUND TWO WITH ZIPS: These two teams squared-off back on Jan. 9 with Akron coming away with a 84-77 victory.
Peyton Scott and
Kelly McLaughlin combined for 49 points, including a career-high 27 for the senior in the loss.
SERIES WITH AKRON: Miami is 39-19 all-time versus the Zips, but Akron has won three straight in the series. Miami's last win versus Akron came on March 9, 2019 in Oxford.
NO RESERVES: Miami has played much of the season with an extremely thin roster, competing much of the year with a max of 10 players due to, opt outs and injuries. In 20 games this season Miami has used eight different starting lineups and just
Peyton Scott and
Katie Davidson have started every contest.
GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 21.4 points and 6.6 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 5.1 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. She ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring (21.4), 11th in rebounding (6.6), second in assists (5.1), sixth in steals (2.6), 13th in field goal percentage (42.7%) and sixth in free throw percentage (83.9%).
LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FLOOR: Peyton Scott also ranks second in the MAC in minutes played (37.7), but even that doesn't tell the entire story. Over her last 13 games, the sophomore has played 407 of 420 available minutes. In all, she has played all 40 minutes in 10 of 20 games this year.
REWRITING HISTORY: Peyton Scott's attack on the record has kept Miami's SID busy in 2020-21.
* She now owns four top-10 scoring performances all-time at Miami, with 34 points versus NIU and Kent State, 37 points against Western Michigan and 39 versus Ball State.
* She made 15 field goals against the Cardinals, which is the most in school history.
* She became the first RedHawk in school history to score at least 30 points in four straight games and matched a Miami record with Courtney Osborn with 71 points in a two-game stretch. Â Even the great Wally Szczerbiak only scored 67 points in back-to-back games during his incredible NCAA Tournament run in 1998-99.
* Earlier this year she had 13 assists at Ball State, which is tops in school history.
* Her season average of 21.4 points would rank second all-time at Miami, just behind Amanda Jackson's 21.6 average during the 2007-08 campaign.
* Scott is on pace to finish her first two seasons at Miami with a combined 898 points. Only
Lauren Dickerson (1,146) and Courtney Osborn (1,033) have scored more points in their first two years at Miami.
SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 216 points and recorded 129 rebounds in 18 games.
