Miami University Athletics is proud to announce Mercy Health Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon Brian Chilelli, M.D. as the new team orthopedic surgeon for Miami University Intercollegiate Athletics. A native of Greater Cincinnati, Dr. Chilelli is board certified and fellowship-trained in sports medicine. He served previously as co-director of the Northwestern Medicine Hip and Knee Preservation Center and was the orthopedic surgeon at the Division I level for Northern Illinois University Athletics.
"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Chilelli to the team," said Miami Director of Athletics David Sayler. "He comes highly recommended from peers in our conference and colleagues in our footprint. We look forward to working with him directly to provide the best possible support and care for our student-athletes - a hallmark of the Miami Athletics-Mercy Health relationship."
Dr. Chilelli is dedicated to the operative and non-operative management of sports related injuries, as well as pre-arthritic and early arthritic joint conditions with a philosophy of non-operative treatment options while only considering surgery as a last resort or when indicated.
"We at Mercy Health are thrilled to have Dr. Chilelli come on board, and to have him as part of the Miami University partnership," said Mercy Health – Fairfield President Justin Krueger. "He brings with him a wealth of orthopedic expertise that will assuredly enhance the level of orthopedic access and care provided to the communities we serve."
Dr. Chilelli performs arthroscopy of the shoulder, hip, and knee and offers joint preservation and ligamentous reconstruction of the knee, including ACL reconstruction. He is part of a select group of orthopedic surgeons nationally that treats cartilage damage of the knee with advanced techniques including MACI (Matrix-induced Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation) and osteochondral allograft transplantation. He is experienced in caring for a wide variety of meniscus injuries, including complex tear patterns, and performs meniscus allograft transplantation. He also performs realignment procedures (osteotomies) of the knee either in isolation or combined with various joint preserving procedures.
Dr. Chilelli earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Ill., and his sports medicine fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is an active member of several societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the International Cartilage Repair Society.
In addition to working with Miami Athletics, Dr. Chilelli will be practicing at Mercy Health Orthopedics and Sports Medicine - Oxford and West Chester locations. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Chilelli, please call (513) 347-9999 or go online to www.mercy.com/Cincinnati-Orthopedics
