The Miami University softball team split a series with No. 23/24 Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. Miami dropped a 7-3 decision in game one and
Courtney Vierstra pitched a complete-game shutout in game two as the RedHawks walked away with a 2-0 victory. The win was the first for head coach
Kirin Kumar as the RedHawks are now 1-3 on the year. Tennessee falls to 5-1.

How it Happened (Game One):
- Tennessee got on the board with a run in the first inning.
- Miami answered off the bat of Adriana Barlow. The junior smashed a three-run homer to left-center as the RedHawks pulled ahead 3-1 after four innings of play.
- The Volunteers scored six runs in the sixth and won the contest 7-3.

How it Happened (Game Two):
- Vierstra was outstanding in game two of the double header. The senior threw a complete-game shutout, recording nine strikeouts and allowed just three hits and a walk.
- Miami scored the first run of the twin bill when junior Maclai Branson singled to center to plate Karlee Juarez.
- The RedHawks added an insurance run in the seventh when sophomore Kate Kobayashi came off the bench as a pinch hitter to record a homerun, the first of her career with the Red and White.

Miami plays five games next weekend. They open Friday, Feb. 26 in a double header with Georgia Tech. On Saturday, Feb. 27 they play Georgia and Georgia State and wrap up the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 28 with a single game against Kennessaw State.
