RedHawks Face Rockets on Wednesday

ON TAP: Miami heads north to take on the Toledo Rockets on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m.

ABOUT TOLEDO: The Rockets are 9-9 overall and 5-9 in conference play, while averaging 69.6 points per contest. Toledo snapped a five-game losing streak last Saturday with a 75-62 win over Akron. Quinesha Lockett averages 19.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game to lead Toledo.

SERIES WITH THE ROCKETS: This is the 69th meeting between the two schools with Toledo holding a 38-30 all-time advantage. Miami has won four straight versus Toledo, including a 92-83 win last year in Oxford. Peyton Scott scored 28 in last year's victory.

30-PLUS LEAGUE Peyton Scott has score at least 30 points in four-straight games, the first RedHawk to ever accomplish that feat. In that stretch, the sophomore has averaged 35.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 3.0 steals per game. She has shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 45.0 percent from behind the arc in her last four games. She is coming off a 39-point effort versus Ball State. She also scored 31 versus Central Michigan, 34 at Kent State and 37 versus WMU.

DON'T LET THE RECORD FOOL YOU: While the season has not gone as planned for the RedHawks, they are playing their best basketball of the season currently. In its last 24 quarters, Miami has outscored/tied its opponent in 15 of those quarters. In four of their last five losses, the contests have been decided by a single possession.

LAST TIME OUT: Peyton Scott matched a Millett Hall record with 39 points, but the Miami University women's basketball team dropped a 79-77 decision last Saturday afternoon to the Ball State Cardinals. Scott was joined in double figures by Abbey Hoff (13) and Kelly McLaughlin (11). Scott had a team-high four assists, while McLaughlin led the team with nine rebounds.

NO RESERVES: Miami has played much of the season with an extremely thin roster, competing much of the year with a max of 10 players due to opt outs and injuries. In 19 games this season, Miami has used eight different starting lineups and just Peyton Scott and Katie Davidson have started every contest.

GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 22.1 points and 6.7 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 5.1 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. She ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring (22.1), 11th in rebounding (6.7), second in assists (5.1), fifth in steals (2.6), 12th in field goal percentage (43.2%) and eighth in free throw percentage (83.5%).

LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FLOOR: Peyton Scott also ranks first in the MAC in minutes played (38.0), but even that doesn't tell the entire story. Over her last 12 games, the sophomore has played 475 of 480 available minutes. In all, she has played all 40 minutes in 10 of 19 games this year.

REWRITING HISTORY: Peyton Scott's attack on the record has kept Miami's SID busy in 2020-21.
* She now owns four top-10 scoring performances all-time at Miami, with 34 points versus NIU and Kent State, 37 points against Western Michigan and 39 versus Ball State.
* She made 15 field goals against the Cardinals, which is the most in school history.
* She became the first RedHawk in school history to score at least 30 points in four-straight games and last week scored 71 points (in two games), tied for most in a two-game stretch in Miami history. Courtney Osborn scored 71 points on Jan. 4 & 7, 2012. Even the great Wally Szczerbiak only scored 67 points in back-to-back games during his incredible NCAA Tournament run in 1998-99.
* Earlier this year she had 13 assists at Ball State, which is tops in school history.
* Her season average of 22.1 points would rank first all-time at Miami, just ahead of Amanda Jackson's 21.6 average during the 2007-08 campaign.
* Scott is on pace to finish her first two seasons at Miami with a combined 906 points. Only Lauren Dickerson (1,146) and Courtney Osborn (1,033) have scored more points in their first two years at Miami.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 191 points and recorded 117 rebounds in 17 games.
