ON TAP: After spending the previous week on the road, the RedHawks host Western Michigan on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday's contest will be the first of five home games in the month of February.
ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN: The Broncos are 2-10 on the year and 1-9 in MAC play. Reilly Jacobson leads the way with 13.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Sydney Shafer (12.6) and Taylor Williams (10.9) also score in double figures.
ROUND TWO WITH WMU: These same two teams competed back on Jan. 20 with the Broncos walking away with a 70-54 victory.
Peyton Scott had 21 points and 11 rebounds, while
Tihanna Fulton had a career-high nine points and six boards.
SERIES WITH THE BRONCOS: Miami is 35-32 all-time versus the Broncos. Miami has won three of the last four contests, but prior to that, WMU had won eight straight, dating back to 2014.
DO IT ALL: Over her past five games,
Peyton Scott has done everything for the women's basketball team. She has played 199 of 200 minutes, while recording 20.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 4.0 steals per game.Â
CHASING HISTORY: There has only been one triple-double in Miami history, Linda Mallender in 1984 (10 pts., 12 rebs., 10 asts.), but
Peyton Scott continues to threaten that record nearly every game. Last Wednesday, Scott had 19 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds versus Ball State. Earlier this month she even nearly had a quadruple double, posting 34 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and seven assists. In all, Scott has had four different games with at least 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists this year.
NO RESERVES: Miami has played much of the season with an extremely thin roster, competing much of the year with a max of 10 players due to, opt outs and injuries. In 15 games this season Miami has used eight different starting lineups and just
Peyton Scott and
Katie Davidson have started every contest.
LAST TIME OUT: Miami dropped a 66-52 decision last Saturday at Northern Illinois. The RedHawks led 32-29 at the half, but a rough offensive performance throughout doomed the RedHawks.
Peyton Scott had 10 points and nine assists, while senior
Abbey Hoff led the team with 11 points.
BENCH PRESS: This season Miami has averaged right around 14 bench points per game. Over its last two games, Miami has scored 47 points off the bench. In the past two games, senior
Kenzie Schmitz has come off the bench to average 10.0 points per game and has made six three-pointers in that span.
GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 18.4 points and 6.6 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 5.7 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. She ranks eighth in the MAC in scoring (18.4), 12th in rebounding (6.6), first in assists (5.7), fifth in steals (2.5), 11th in field goal percentage (38.1%) and eighth in free throw percentage (83.6%).
LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FLOOR: Peyton Scott also ranks second in the MAC in minutes played (37.5), but even that doesn't tell the entire story. Over her last eight games, the sophomore has played 316 of 320 available minutes. In all, she has played all 40 minutes in seven of 15 games this year.
FRESHMAN PHENOM: Katie Davidson has made a quick impression on the basketball team. The freshman has scored in double figures in 10 games this season and is averaging 12.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Â Her scoring average ranks 20th in the MAC and is second-best in the conference among freshmen.Â
SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 150 points and recorded 91 rebounds in 13 games for an average of 11.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. She ranks 21st in the MAC in scoring, ninth in rebounds and first in shooting percentage (54.5%).
