RedHawks Welcome Buffalo to Town For Saturday Showdown

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team opens conference play on Saturday, Jan. 1 versus Buffalo. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.

NEW YEAR, NEW RESULTS: The RedHawks are 4-5 on the year, already matching last year's win total (went 4-20 last season). Miami got its fourth win of the season last year on Feb. 27.

DELAYED RESULTS: With Wednesday's contest versus Ohio postponed, the RedHawks have not competed since at Purdue on Dec. 19.

REDHAWKS COME UP SHORT AT PURDUE: Ivy Wolf scored a game-high 19 points and Peyton Scott added 18 in a near upset over the Purdue Boilermakers, falling 82-76 back on Dec. 19. Trailing 58-52 to begin the fourth quarter, a Maddi Cluse layup followed by a triple from Wolf closed the gap to within one, but Purdue answered with a 10-2 run as the RedHawks could get no closer.

BALANCING ACT: While Peyton Scott (19.3) and Ivy Wolf (11.6) are getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 4.3 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has six additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all, Ivy Wolf, Maddi Cluse, Edyn Battle, Tajah Foster-Walker, Jordan Tuff and Katey Richason are combining for 36.3 points and 17.5 rebounds per game.

ABOUT BUFFALO: The Bulls are 7-4 on the year and are coming off a 92-75 win over Central Michigan to begin MAC play. UB is led by Dyaisha Fair (21.7 ppg.), Summer Hemphill (15.6 ppg.) and Georgia Wooley (10.0 ppg.).

SERIES WITH THE BULLS: This will be the 46th meeting between the two programs, with Buffalo holding a 25-20 advantage. The Bulls have won the last 12 meetings, including a pair of wins last year. Miami's last win in this series was Jan. 23, 2016, a 69-58 victory in Millett Hall.

GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard Peyton Scott has accomplished more than most through just over two years of play.
• Has scored 1,058 points and ranks 25th all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• She currently ranks fifth in the MAC in scoring (19.3), 12th in rebounding (6.7), sixth in assists (4.3), eighth in field goal percentage (.489), 14th in steals (1.8) and 16th in three-point percentage (.381).
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 41 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (5) then under 10 point games (3).

IN THE MAC: With a majority of Mid-American Conference schools playing nearly 10 contests this year, below is how the RedHawks rank in some key categories.
• Miami is first in three-point percentage defense (.258).
• The RedHawks have been outstanding on the glass to start the season, ranking fifth in the MAC in total rebounding (40.3) and first in offensive rebounds (15.9). Overall, Miami is second in the MAC in rebounding margin (5.4).
• Miami is third in steals (10.8).
