
RedHawks Kick Off Miami Invitational in Oxford

The first day of the Miami Invitational saw relatively strong performances across the board for the RedHawks as they took on Grand Canyon University and Youngstown State University on Thursday, Dec. 2. Picking up several top three finishes across the 12 events, including some key first place wins, the Miami women's team took the lead with a day one score of 439, while the men's score of 317 placed them between GCU in first and YSU in third, with plenty of events still to come.

How It Happened:
- Honor Brodie-Foy placed second and earned a time of 23.05 in the women's 50 freestyle preliminary, putting her eighth in Miami's program history for the event.
- 12 swimmers for the RedHawks achieved lifetime bests across preliminary events, including four college best times; Owen Blazer (1:54.71) and Ian Van Gorp (1:57.84) in the 200 individual medley, and Ian Arnold (21.40) and Jack Herczeg (20.84) in the 50 freestyle.
- In finals, Nicole Maier picked up first in the women's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:42.60, a time just over 10 seconds shorter than her preliminary time.
- Henju Duvenhage claimed victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:47.52, also beating his preliminary time.
- Both teams placed second in the 200 freestyle relay, in addition to the 400 medley relay. Across the night, Miami swimmers picked up three individual second place finishes, with UrošÂ Djokovic in the 500 freestyle (4:29.35), Sam Sutton in the 200 individual medley (2:04.92) and Brodie-Foy in the 50 freestyle (23.06).
- The RedHawks performed respectfully in the platform diving event, with Madeline Lutzko taking third for the women with a score of 207.60 and Karsten Dixon finishing the same with a score of 260.30.
