RedHawks Face Purdue on Sunday

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team heads to face Purdue on Sunday, Dec. 19, its final contest prior to the holiday break. Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m.

NEW YEAR, NEW RESULTS: The RedHawks are 4-4 on the year, already matching last year's win total (went 4-20 last season). Miami got its fourth win of the season last year on Feb. 27.

MEMBER OF THE BIG TEN: Sunday will be Miami's second contest this year versus a member of the Big Ten. The RedHawks lost 72-65 earlier this year at Illinois.

REDHAWKS FALL AT BUZZER VS. WKU: Peyton Scott scored 20 points, including the game-tying jumper with 3.9 seconds to play, but Western Kentucky got an offensive rebound and putback at the buzzer to top Miami 60-58 on Wednesday afternoon. The RedHawks led 56-49 with 90 seconds to play before the Lady Toppers used a 9-0 run to take a late lead. Scott finished with a game-high six assists and added four steals, while Edyn Battle scored a career-high 12 points. Maddi Cluse had a career-high 11 rebounds and career-high four steals for Miami.

BALANCING ACT: While Peyton Scott (19.5) and Ivy Wolf (10.6) are getting a majority of the offensive attention, Miami has a total of eight players averaging at least 4.3 points per game this season. Last year, just four RedHawks averaged over 4.0 points per game.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: Miami has six additions to the RedHawks in 2021-22 that are contributing numbers to Miami's success. In all, Ivy Wolf, Maddi Cluse, Edyn Battle, Tajah Foster-Walker, Jordan Tuff and Katey Richason are combining for 36.0 points and 18.2 rebounds per game.

ABOUT PURDUE: The Boilermakers are 7-4 on the year and recently downed Denver 101-68 (Dec. 12). Prior to that, Purdue lost 86-71 to No. 8 Maryland back on Dec. 8. Purdue features a balanced attack, with four scorers averaging double figures, led by Madison Layden (12.7 points, 4.9 rebs.).

SERIES WITH BOILERMAKERS: This will be the ninth meeting between the two programs, with Purdue holding a 6-2 all-time advantage. These two teams last played on Nov. 15, 2017, a contest Purdue won 75-66 back in 2017. The RedHawks last beat Purdue was March 12, 1982 (65-60).

GREAT SCOTT: Junior guard Peyton Scott has accomplished more than most through just over two years of play.
• Has scored 1,040 points and ranks 26th all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• She currently ranks sixth in the MAC in scoring (19.5), 14th in rebounding (6.6), third in assists (4.6), sixth in field goal percentage (.508) and 10th in three-point percentage (.405).
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.
• In her last 40 contests, Scott has more 30 point games (5) then under 10 point games (3).

IN THE MAC: With a majority of Mid-American Conference schools playing nearly 10 contests this year, below is how the RedHawks rank in some key categories.
• Miami is first in three-point percentage defense (.252).
• The RedHawks have been outstanding on the glass to start the season, ranking third in the MAC in total rebounding (40.6) and first in offensive rebounds (16.1). Overall, Miami is second in the MAC in rebounding margin (6.6).
