RedHawks Kick-Off Season at Hoosier Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -Â The Miami RedHawks women's and men's track and field team opened indoor action Friday afternoon when they started the winter season at the Hoosier Open Meet at Indiana University.The 'Hawks went up against Indiana University and six other teams in the meet beginning their season.
The first win on the day came in the shot put on the men's side for Miami, with Ryan Smith finishing first in the field with a distance of 16.86 meters. On the women's side, Sydney Jefferson finished third in the weight throw in the finals. Miami also entered two athletes in the high jump and the shot put, with Jaime Handra clearing 1.62 meter mark for fifth place in her flight. Grace Rigel competed in the women's shot put and got fourth place with a distance of 13.41 meters.
Over on the track side with their season debuts, Sarah Bruns finished in fourth place in the women's 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.99 seconds.
