Basketball Opens Season on Wednesday at Valpo

The Miami University women's basketball team opens the 2021-22 season with a trip to face Valparaiso on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.

FULL ROSTER: After playing much of the 2020-21 season with between seven and 10 players, the RedHawks have a full roster (15) to begin the season. Miami welcomes back two players that opted out last season, two returning from injury and four newcomers.

GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott was second-team All-MAC a year ago after averaging 21.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.7 steals per game last season. She ranked in the top-10 in six different MAC categories and scored double digits in 23 of 24 contests.

EXHIBITION NOTES: The RedHawks hosted Lock Haven last Saturday morning, walking away with a 73-43 exhibition win.
• Freshman Ivy Wolf led all scorers with 22 points, connecting on four triples.
• Peyton Scott had 16 points in 24 minutes of action and freshman Maddi Cluse had seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
• Four players saw their first action in a Miami uniform: Ivy Wolf, Maddi Cluse, Tajah Foster-Walker, and Clare Chambers.

RECAPPING 2020-21: As mentioned before, Miami played several games last season with just seven players and on a good day entered a contest with 10 healthy players. Even with that lack of depth, Miami played some of its best basketball to close the 4-20 campaign. The RedHawks beat Toledo on Feb. 17 and 10 days later knocked off Kent State 61-58, who was atop the MAC East standings at the time.

ABOUT VALPO: Valparaiso was 12-13 a year ago. The Crusaders averaged 64.3 points per game, which included a 38.9 shooting percentage from behind the arc and returns its top four scorers from the 2020-21 campaign.

LAST YEAR VERSUS THE CRUSADERS: Miami walked away with a 67-49 victory a year ago at home versus Valpo. Four different RedHawks scored double-figures in the win, including 14 apiece for Peyton Scott and Katie Davidson. Miami also dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Crusaders 50-26.

SERIES WITH VALPO: Miami holds a slight 11-10 advantage in the all-time series.

WITH A CAPITAL P: Known as "P" amongst her teammates, junior guard Peyton Scott has accomplished more than most through two years of play.
• Has scored 884 points and is just 116 points away from becoming the 27th RedHawk to surpass 1,000 points in their career.
• Last season alone, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record.
• She had a stretch last season from Feb. 3-Feb. 13 in which she scored 30-plus points in four straight games, the first RedHawk in school history to accomplish such a feat.

NEW FACES: As mentioned before, Miami played several games a year ago with as few as seven players and will have 15 in 2021-22. In all, Miami welcomes four new freshmen in Clare Chambers, Maddi Cluse, Ivy Wolf and Katey Richason. Sydney Watkins and Edyn Battle return after missing last season with an injury and Tajah Foster-Walker and Jordan Tuff, two transfers join the RedHawks as well.

MIAMI'S OWN KD: Katie Davidson had an incredible start to her Miami career, finishing 2020-21 with 11.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while starting all 24 contests. She scored double digit points in 15 contests and had at least five rebounds in 10 different games.
