OXFORD, Ohio— Despite a gritty effort on Senior Night, the Miami University volleyball team (6-19; 4-11 Mid-American Conference) fell to Ohio University (10-16; 10-5 MAC) on Saturday evening at Millett Hall, 25-18, 13-25, 25-17, 16-25, 15-17.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first set started out very tight. Two kills, alternated by an ace, by junior Lindsay Taylor sparked a 9-2 run to hand Miami a 15-9 advantage. Miami used an impressive .441 hitting percentage to claim the opening set, 25-18.
- Miami notched a quick 3-1 edge and the teams battled back and forth until Ohio used a 12-3 run to push ahead and eventually take the second set, 25-13.
- A pair of kills from senior Gaby Harper and one each from sophomores Maggie McCrary and Abby Stratford helped hand Miami a 15-10 advantage mid-way through the third set. A 5-0 run at the end of the set, topped off by a signature kill from Gaby Harper, gave Miami a 25-17.
- Ohio led early in the fourth set and did not look back as the Bobcats claimed a 25-16 win.
- Stratford opened the fifth set with back-to-back service aces for the RedHawks as Miami built a quick 5-1 lead. A kill from Gaby Harper put the Miami lead at five, 11-6, and another Harper kill put Miami up 12-7. Ohio climbed back to knot the set 14-14 and went on to claim the 17-15 win in the final stanza.
