Hard-Fought Four-Set Effort Falls Short at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Despite a hard-fought effort, the Miami University volleyball team (7-21; 5-13 MAC) dropped a four-set decision at Bowling Green State University (20-8; 16-2) on Wednesday night in the Stroh Center, 25-27, 28-26, 21-25, 22-25.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Miami used a 7-1 run spurred by two kills from senior Gaby Harper and a service ace and kill from junior Allyson Severance midway through the first set to flip the lead to their advantage, 19-15. BGSU came back with its own 7-1 spurt to take a 22-20 edge. The teams went back and forth before the Falcons inched out a 27-25 win.
  • The RedHawks burst out to a 6-1 lead in the second set with help from a kill and a service ace from sophomore Abby Stratford. Miami led by as many as six in the set, but the Falcons chipped away to knot the set, 23-23. A kill by Severance and a sophomore Taylor Nomanson service ace clinched the set for the RedHawks, 28-26.
  • In the third set, it was the Falcons who jumped out to an early lead, posting an 11-3 advantage. Miami did not relent and came back to knot the set off a Gaby Harper kill, 14-14. A 7-2 Falcon run put them at a 24-19 advantage, and BGSU went on to take the third set, 25-21.
  • After starting out going back and forth, Miami pushed ahead to an 11-7 lead off a 4-1 flurry with help from another Nomanson service ace. Spurred by a pair of kills from Gaby Harper, Miami notched a 14-10 lead, but BGSU responded with a 5-1 spurt of its own to knot the set at 15 apiece. The set was tied at 19-19 before Bowling Green pushed ahead to take the fourth set, 25-22.
