Miami University head women's basketball coach DeUnna Hendrix has announced the addition of Riley Neal to its program.
"Riley is a multi-faceted player with a high level work ethic, basketball IQ, and a passion for the game," said Hendrix. "Her high character and team first mentality will undoubtedly help continue to push us towards the top of the MAC. We are excited to officially welcome her to the Miami family."
Neal, a senior at Oldham High School in Prospect, Ky., averaged 21.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as a junior captain. She shot 82.7% from the free throw line and earned all-region and all-district her junior campaign. With her senior season yet to occur, Neal owns the school record with 1,389 points and is second in rebounds with 571.
"Riley Neal is a great fit academically and athletically for Miami University," said AAU Coach Marcus Burgher. "Riley is a high-character young woman who consistently displays the ability and work ethic to be successful in the classroom and on the basketball court. Riley's success is directly attributable to her self-discipline and personal commitment to improve on a daily basis. Riley is a player that will embrace and foster Coach DeUnna Hendrix's philosophy of creating a player-driven culture where players take ownership of the team. I am excited for Riley and greatly appreciate the opportunity Coach Hendrix has given Riley to be a part of the RedHawks program.
Neal is the daughter of Rachel and Chris Neal.
"Riley is a one of a kind person and player," said High School Head Coach Mac McIntosh. "Her work ethic is unmatched on and off the court. She truly represents Lady Mustang Basketball well. Miami is getting a special player and I (we) are excited for her future."
