
Field Hockey Downs Central Michigan in Overtime, 3-2

Oxford, Ohio — On Friday afternoon, The Miami University field hockey team came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Central Michigan University 3-2 in overtime. The victory is the fourth straight Mid-American Conference win for Miami, allowing them to improve to 7-8 overall and 4-0 in the MAC, Central Michigan falls to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the MAC.

Miami returns to the field on Sunday, Oct 10. at 1 p.m. to face Michigan State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks offense came alive early putting pressure on Central Michigan's defense but the first shot of the game by Paula Pena was high over the crossbar.
- After 15 minutes the game remained tied 0-0, despite Miami having all six shots and both penalty corners.
- Miami continued applying most of the offensive pressure in the second quarter, but Central Michigan added the first goal of the game with seconds left in the first half, to make it 1-0.
- At the half, Miami led in shots 10-1 and penalty corners 4-0 but Central Michigan's one shot was the difference after two quarters, as they led 1-0.
- With 3:40 to play in the third quarter, the Miami attack finally gets on the board, as Claudia Negrete Garcia evens the score off an assist from Luli Rosso, making it 1-1.
- After three quarters with the game knotted up at 1-1, Miami had a 22-1 advantage in shots and an 11-0 in penalty corners.
- Lexie Nugent takes it 25 yards herself and puts the RedHawks on top Over the Chippewas 2-1 with just under ten minutes to play.
- With 15 seconds to play, Central Michigan added a goal to make the game 2-2 and force overtime.
- In overtime, Luli Rosso scored to give the RedHawks the 3-2 victory with a little less than nine minutes played in OT.
- Miami finished the game with a season-high in both shots and penalty corners at 39 and 18 respectively. The 39 shots were also a MAC high in an individual game this season.Â
