Kent, Ohio — On Friday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team fell to Kent State University in an important hard-fought Mid-American conference game. Despite the loss, The RedHawks were in control most of the game following the early Kent goal but were unable to draw even. The loss drops Miami to 7-10 overall and 4-1 in MAC play, while Kent State improves to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Six minutes into the game, Kent State broke the tie with a goal off of their second straight corner to make the game 1-0.
- After one quarter, Kent State held a 1-0 lead, scoring on their only shot. Miami also had just one shot after 15 minutes played.
- Paula Pena came along the left side of the cage and had a good chance to score but was blocked with just under five minutes to play before halftime. Then with 1:03 left in the second quarter, Morgan Sturm had a shot go wide on a corner.
- At halftime, Kent State's 1-0 lead remained. However, Miami led in shots 5-4 and in penalty corners 3-2 after 30 minutes completed.
- Early into the fourth quarter, Miami had three corners and continued to be aggressive on the aggressive end as they searched for the equalizer.
- With 4:30 left, the Miami attack continued to battle for a goal, as Claudia Negrete Garcia had a great shot blocked off of a penalty corner and then had another corner shot go wide at 3:59
- In the final minute, a referral saw the RedHawks lose a penalty corner opportunity to tie the game. Instead, a long clear by Kent State resulted in the end of the game.
- Miami finished the game leading in corners 11-3 and shots 16-4.
