RedHawks Host Ohio Wednesday

ON TAP: Miami will play its second straight home contest to open 2021 with a Wednesday tilt versus arch-rival Ohio. Opening tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: Trailing 50-30 early in the third quarter, the Miami women's basketball team finished the quarter on a 16-4 run, but its comeback fell short in a 75-67 loss to Buffalo. In the defeat, sophomore Peyton Scott had 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists while battling foul trouble for much of the contest.

ABOUT OHIO: Ohio comes into Wednesday's contest with a 3-3 overall and 1-2 MAC record. The Bobcats average over 80 points per game. Cece Hooks averages 25.0 points per game, while Erica Johnson is not far behind, averaging 23.8 points per contest.

SERIES WITH OHIO: Miami is 57-36 all-time versus the Bobcats. Ohio has won the last three contests, but before that, the RedHawks had a four-game win streak versus the Green and White.

DYNAMIC DUO: The backcourt duo of sophomore Peyton Scott and freshman Katie Davidson are averaging a combined 33.3 points, 12.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists. Both players are also averaging 35.3 minutes per game and have scored in double figures in all seven contests.

CLIPPED WING: The RedHawks have been playing much of this season with a shortened roster due to key injuries. In Miami's 75-67 loss to Buffalo, just eight players participated in the contest.

BENCH PRESS: Miami got a season high 15 bench points last week versus Buffalo. Freshman Jada Duckett recorded eight points and had four rebounds, while Tihana Fulton secured seven points and four rebounds off of the bench.

GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 17.6 points and 5.1 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 4.9 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. In her career, Scott has started 37 contests and has scored 499 points. She has scored in double figures in every game this year and ranks fifth in the MAC in free throw percentage (.905).

KD WHO?: Katie Davidson has made a quick impression on the basketball team. The freshman has scored in double figures in every game of her career and is averaging 15.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. She posted 16 points and 10 rebounds at No. 22 Notre Dame in her first collegiate game. She had 18 points at Ohio State and had a career day at Evansville, scoring 22 points and adding 13 rebounds.

CAREER YEAR: While still early in the season, senior Abbey Hoff is posting the best numbers of her career. Through her first three years with the RedHawks, Hoff averaged 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. This year, Hoff is averaging 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. Over her last 16 games, Hoff is 20-of-55 (36.4%) from behind the arc.

SUPER SENIOR: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 79 points and recorded 64 rebounds in seven games for an average of 11.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. She even made her first career three pointer versus Bowling Green.

POUND THE BOARDS: Despite its incredibly tough schedule, Miami leads the MAC in rebounding margin at +9.7 per game, but what they are doing on the offensive glass is even better. Miami has at least 10 offensive rebounds in every contest this season and over its last two MAC games Miami has 36 offensive boards. Miami ranks 19th in the country with 16.7 offensive rebounds per game.
