RedHawks Down Broncos, 65-56

OXFORD, Ohio– In a defensive battle, the Miami University men's basketball team (8-5, 5-3 Mid-American Conference) captured a 65-56 win against the Western Michigan Broncos (2-11, 1-7 MAC) Saturday afternoon in Millett Hall. Senior forward Dalonte Brown led the RedHawks with 16 points, while junior guard Mekhi Lairy added 15 points.

SCHEDULE UPDATE: Miami's home game against Akron, originally scheduled for Feb. 13, has been moved to Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
How it Happened:
- Brown started the game off hot, scoring the first seven points for the RedHawks.
- Miami led for most of the first half in a close game, with the Broncos never trailing by more than seven points.
- Back-to-back Bronco field goals late in the half allowed them to close the gap, 20-18, with 1:39 left. Redshirt sophomore Myja White drained an electrifying triple with 38 seconds left to extend the RedHawk lead to 25-21, which they carried into the half.
- Western Michigan took a 27-25 lead early in the second half. Miami used a 17-2 run to bounce back and post a 42-29 advantage off a redshirt freshman forward Javin Etzler triple with 13:18 to play.
- The Broncos responded and pulled within 46-42 with 9:35 to play. Miami was able to push its lead to double figures down the stretch and snapped a six-game losing streak in the series with the Broncos with a 65-56 win.
Game Notes:
- Brown had 16 points and five rebounds for Miami, while Lairy added 15 points, six assists and three steals. Redshirt junior forward James Beck tallied nine points and led all players with nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Dae Dae Grant added nine points.
- Etzler recorded a career high six rebounds.
