ON TAP: Miami will play a pair of road contests this week, starting with a Wednesday trip to Ball State. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The RedHawks trailed 22-4 after 10 minutes of play and could never crawl out of the early hole.
Katie Davidson led the way with 19 points, while
Peyton Scott added 17 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.
ABOUT BALL STATE: The Cardinals come into Wednesday's action at 6-5 overall and 4-3 in MAC play, and have won their past two contests versus Ohio and Eastern Michigan. Oshlynn Brown leads the way with 15.3 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. Brown is one of five players averaging double figures for the Cardinals.
SERIES WITH BALL STATE: Miami is 40-27 all-time versus the Cardinals, but BSU has won eight of the last nine matchups in the series. Miami's last win in Muncie was back on Feb. 3, 2003.
DO IT ALL: Over her past three games,
Peyton Scott has done everything for the women's basketball team. She has played all 120 minutes, while recording 24.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.3 steals. She also has just 12 turnovers in that span.
SHE'S BACK: Freshman
Katie Davidson has had some ups and downs throughout the year, scoring just 27 points in a four-game span from Jan. 9-Jan. 20. On Saturday versus BG, Davidson led the team with 19 points in 24 minutes of play.
NO RESERVES: Miami has played much of the season with an extremely thin roster, competing Saturday with just nine players due to departures, opt outs and injuries. In 13 games this season Miami has used seven different starting lineups and just
Peyton Scott and
Katie Davidson have started all 13 contests.
GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 19.2 points and 6.6 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 4.8 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. She ranks seventh in the MAC in scoring (19.2), 12th in rebounding (6.6), second in assists (4.8), eighth in steals (2.3) and 11th in field goal percentage (38.9%).
LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FLOOR: Peyton Scott also ranks second in the MAC in minutes played (37.2), but even that doesn't tell the entire story. Over her last six games, the sophomore has played 237 of 240 available minutes. She played all 40 minutes versus Akron, NIU, Western Michigan and Bowling Green. She played 39 minutes versus Eastern Michigan and "only" played 38 minutes versus Ohio. In all, she has played all 40 minutes in six of 13 games this year.
FRESHMAN PHENOM: Katie Davidson has made a quick impression on the basketball team. The freshman has scored in double figures in eight of nine games in her career and is averaging 13.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Â Her scoring average ranks 16th in the MAC and is second-best (16th nationally) in the conference among freshmen, trailing only BGSU's Lexi Fleming (18.7). She also has a chance to become one of Miami's best freshman in school history, despite the shortened season. Davidson is currently on pace to score 330 points, which would be the sixth-most points in Miami history for a freshmen, trailing only
Lauren Dickerson (520), Courtney Osborn (513), Kim Lancaster (432), Amanda Jackson (391) and
Peyton Scott (376).Â
SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 131 points and recorded 84 rebounds in 10 games for an average of 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She ranks 20th in the MAC in scoring, sixth in rebounds and first in shooting percentage (54.5%).
