RedHawks Host Falcons on Saturday Afternoon

ON TAP: Miami welcomes Bowling Green to Millett Hall for a Saturday afternoon tilt. Opening tip is slated for 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Miami University women's basketball team fell 70-54 on Wednesday afternoon to the Western Michigan Broncos. In the loss, Peyton Scott led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

ABOUT BOWLING GREEN: The Falcons are 10-3 overall and 6-2 in MAC play, which includes a 66-57 win over Akron on Wednesday. Freshman Lexi Fleming leads BGSU with 19.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

SERIES WITH BOWLING GREEN: Miami is 34-53 all-time versus the Falcons, including a 71-66 loss earlier this year at the Stroh Center. BG has currently won two straight in the series, but prior to that, Miami had won six straight, dating back to the 2016-17 season.

ROUND TWO WITH THE FALCONS: Earlier this season Miami dropped a 71-66 decision to BGSU. In the loss, Kelly McLaughlin had a career-high 22 points and 18 rebounds, while Katie Davidson added 16 and Peyton Scott chipped in with 12.

GREAT SCOTT: Peyton Scott had a banner year for the RedHawks in 2019-20, averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MAC Freshman honors, but that is nothing compared to what she is doing in 2020-21. The sophomore is averaging 19.4 points and 6.3 rebounds this season. Playing much of this season as the team's point guard, Scott is also averaging 4.7 assists per game after averaging just 2.2 a year ago. She ranks seventh in the MAC in scoring (19.4), 15th in rebounding (6.3), second in assists (4.7), ninth in steals (2.3) and 12th in field goal percentage (39.5%).

FLIRTING WITH HISTORY: Last week, Peyton Scott flirted with a quadruple-double versus Northern Illinois, finishing the game with 34 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and seven assists. Her 34 points rank 10th in school history, while the eight steals are fifth most at Miami.

LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FLOOR: Peyton Scott also ranks second in the MAC in minutes played (37.0), but even that doesn't tell the entire story. Over her last five games, the sophomore has played 197 of 200 available minutes. She played all 40 minutes versus Akron, NIU and Western Michigan. She played 39 minutes versus Eastern Michigan and "only" played 38 minutes versus Ohio. In all, she has played all 40 minutes in five of 12 games this year.

BENCH PRESS: In Miami's first six contests of the year they managed just 51 total bench points (8.5/game). In its last six games the RedHawks have combined for 73 points (12.2/game) off the bench. Much of that credit goes to Jada Duckett, who has 39 points off the bench in the past six games.

NO RESERVES: Miami has played much of the season with an extremely thin roster, competing Wednesday with just eight players due to departures, opt outs and injuries. In 12 games this season Miami has used six different starting lineups and just Peyton Scott and Katie Davidson have started all 12 contests.

FRESHMAN PHENOM: Katie Davidson has made a quick impression on the basketball team. The freshman has scored in double figures in eight of nine games in her career and is averaging 12.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.  Her scoring average ranks 18th in the MAC and is second-best (16th nationally) in the conference among freshmen, trailing only BGSU's Lexi Fleming (19.0). She also has a chance to become one of Miami's best freshman in school history, despite the shortened season. Davidson is currently on pace to score 324 points, which would be the sixth-most points in Miami history for a freshmen, trailing only Lauren Dickerson (520), Courtney Osborn (513), Kim Lancaster (432), Amanda Jackson (391) and Peyton Scott (376).

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Kelly McLaughlin scored 188 points and had 125 rebounds in her first three years with the RedHawks, averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. This year, the senior has already scored 129 points and recorded 84 rebounds in 10 games for an average of 12.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. She ranks 17th in the MAC in scoring, fourth in rebounds and first in shooting percentage (54.6%).

POUND THE BOARDS: Despite its incredibly tough schedule, Miami leads the MAC in rebounding margin at +6.7 per game, but what they are doing on the offensive glass is even better. Miami has at least 10 offensive rebounds in 11 of 12 contests this season and over its last seven MAC games Miami has 97 offensive boards. Miami ranks 27th in the country with 14.9 offensive rebounds per game.
