Miami Falls in First Round of MAC Tournament at Buffalo

The RedHawks fell by a 72-87 margin on Monday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Miami University women's basketball team (11-20, 4-14 MAC) fell to Buffalo by an 87-72 margin on Monday in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

Savannah Kluesner broke the single-season double-double record with her 14th double-double of the season, totaling 21 points and 11 rebounds in her 10th 20-point game of the season. She was also a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line. Lauren Dickerson led the Miami offense with 22 points, reaching the 20-point plateau for the 12th time this season to tie for the sixth-most 20-point games in a season in program history. Peyton Scott rounded out the RedHawks' double-figure scorers with 15 points.

Buffalo began the game's scoring with a three-pointer just eight seconds into the game but Kenzie Schmitz would respond on the next possession with one of her own. The RedHawks trailed by two at 7-5 with 7:46 to play in the opening quarter before an 11-2 run over the next two minutes gave the Bulls a 20-9 lead.

Back-to-back Miami baskets would cut the lead to seven but Buffalo ended the first quarter on a 12-1 run to hold a 32-14 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Bulls shot 63.6 percent during the first quarter.

Scoring was relatively even during the second quarter until the media timeout as Buffalo led by a 41-24 margin with under five to play in the first half. The RedHawks were outscored 15-3 to end the half, facing a 56-27 deficit. Kluesner had eight of Miami's 13 points in the second quarter. Buffalo turned the ball over just once in the first half.

The RedHawks used a 15-0 run midway through the third quarter to outscore the Bulls 26-14. Buffalo's lead was 66-51 with 1:41 left in the third. Kluesner, Dickerson and Scott all reached double figures as Miami was 7-of-12 and a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe during the third quarter.

Dickerson and Kluesner each passed the 20-point mark in the final quarter of the game as Dickerson had 12 of Miami's 19 fourth-quarter points, including two triples. The RedHawks would score the final nine points of the game but fell 87-72 when the final buzzer sounded.

The loss ends Miami's season.
