
Men Second After Third Day at 2020 MAC Championships

The RedHawks remain second after Friday’s competition with 527 points.
CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Miami University men's swimming and diving team is second after three days of competition at the 2020 Mid-American Conference Championships on the campus of Southern Illinois.
Spencer Klinsky won the 100 fly to begin the session. His time (48.45) ranks seventh in program history. Miami had a strong showing in the 100 fly as Nic Wamsley finished fifth (48.74), Jacob Peloquin sixth (48.91) and Preston Harrison eighth (49.82) to round out the finals. Fitz Miller (49.84) and Ben Chatwin (50.00) finished 13th and 15th overall, respectively.
In the 100 back, Cole Grosshans was the runner up (48.32) with the second-fastest time in program history. Klinsky finished eighth overall (50.70) while Peloquin won the consolation final for ninth overall (49.82). Fitz Miller finished right behind Peloquin in 10th (49.86) while Harrison was 13th (50.96).
Miami also finished second in the 400 medley relay. Grosshans, Noah Barr, Gordon Wheeler and Wamsley swam the fifth-fastest time in program history (3:15.85).
The RedHawks had three swimmers in the 400 IM, led by James McGuire, who touched the wall third (3:56.95). Jack Clouatre finished fifth (3:57.98) as both his and McGuire's times rank in the top 10 in program history. Ryan Sego was eighth (4:05.34) as he also qualified for the finals.
In the 200 free, Wheeler led Miami with a third-place finish (1:38.17), a time that ranks eighth in program history. Nick Ward finished fourth (1:38.69) and Diego Valentim finished 10th overall (1:38.85).
The RedHawks picked up another third-place finish, this time by Barr in the 100 breast (54.77). He beat out his time from prelims for the fourth-fastest in program history. Sam Curran (56.12) and Black Brockman (56.56) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, as all three RedHawks qualified for the finals with their morning times.
The teams conclude action on Saturday with swimming prelims at 11:30 a.m. and finals for swimming and the 3-mtr dive at 7:40 p.m. Swimmers will compete in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly in both the morning and evening sessions while the 1650 free and 400 free relay will only take place during the evening session. After the competition concludes, the championship awards will be presented.
