
Miami Men Finish Second at the 2020 MAC Championships

The RedHawks won three relays and three individual events this week.
CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Miami University men's swimming and diving team finished second at the 2020 Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Southern Illinois. The RedHawks totaled three relay wins and three individual wins this week.
Four RedHawks earned All-MAC First Team honors in Cole Grosshans, Spencer Klinsky, Gordon Wheeler and Nick Ward. Seven Miami athletes were named All-MAC Second Team in Jack Clouatre, Noah Barr, James McGuire, Nic Wamsley, Sam Wiedemann, Sam Curran and Ryan Sego. Freshman diver Karsten Dixon was named MAC Freshman Diver of the Year.
Miami swept the podium in the 200 fly. Wheeler won the event (1:47.55), while Klinsky (1:48.11) and Ryan Sego (1:49.06) finished second and third, respectively. Clouatre touched the wall in sixth overall (1:51.21). Both Wheeler and Klinsky posted top-10 times in program history.
The RedHawks were also strong in the 100 free. Ward was just out-touched as his time (44.51) was good for second in the event and fourth in Miami history. Grosshans finished fourth (45.31) and Diego Valentim and Wamsley tied for seventh (45.61). Ben Chatwin won the consolation finals to finish ninth overall (45.80).
In the 200 breast, Barr led Miami with a third-place finish (1:59.22), the sixth-fastest in Miami history. Sam Curran (2:00.57) and Blake Brockman (2:00.37) also posted top-10 times, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. McGuire finished seventh overall (2:01.19).
Fitz Miller led the RedHawks with a fourth-place finish in the 200 back (1:48.43), a time that ranks in the top 10 in program history. Jacob Peloquin finished 15th (1:55.02).
Both Wiedemann and Dixon dove in the finals of the 3-mtr dive. Wiedemann finished third overall (289.50) while Dixon finished eighth (210.15).
The RedHawks concluded the 2020 MAC Championships with a win in the 400 free relay. Grosshans, Wamsley, Chatwin and Ward swam the second-fastest time in program history (2:56.77).
