Broncos Down RedHawks 5-2

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Miami hockey team fell 5-2 on Friday night to Western Michigan.

Ryan Larkin had 41 saves in the loss as the Broncos outshot Miami 46-30. This was Larkin's third 40-save performance of the year.

Midway through the first period Western Michigan held a 14-7 shot advantage but Larkin turned aside each WMU opportunity. The Broncos eventually got on the score sheet, recording two goals in a span of 16 seconds to hold a 2-0 advantage with under six minutes to play in the opening period.

Three minutes later Miami (8-20-5) cut the lead in half. While on the power play, Derek Dashcke slid the puck over to Casey Gilling who fired a rocket from the right circle. The rebound deflected directly onto Gordie Green's stick, who recorded his 13th goal of the season.   WMU (17-13-5) reclaimed its two-goal advantage midway through the second and added its fourth goal of the contest with five minutes to go in the period to lead 4-1.

Miami's Carter Johnson beat the second period horn to send the RedHawks to the locker room, trailing 4-2. Andrew Sinard found Jack Clement open at the right point. Clement fired a wrister towards the WMU goaltender. Johnson grabbed the rebound and found the back of the net with one second left in the period. The Broncos scored two minutes into the final period and led 5-2.

Miami wraps up the regular season tomorrow night in game two at Western Michigan. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
