
Miami Men Second After Day Two of the MAC Championships

The RedHawks won two events on Thursday.
CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Miami University men's swimming and diving team is second in the five-team field after two days of competition at the 2020 Mid-American Conference Championships.
Miami's most dominant event of the day was the 50 free. Cole Grosshans became the MAC Champion with the third-fastest time in program history since 2007 (19.82) after swimming his lifetime best (19.79) in prelims. Nick Ward was the runner up (20.39), Ben Chatwin was fifth (20.67), Nic Wamsley was seventh (20.78) and Diego Valentim was 14th (21.15). Chatwin's time was his lifetime best.
The RedHawks won the 200 free relay (1:20.04) with the second-fastest Miami time since 2007. Ward, Wamsley, Chatwin and Grosshans swam the relay.
In the 500 free, Gordon Wheeler led the RedHawks with a fifth-place finish (4:31.53). James McGuire finished eighth (4:36.35) after swimming a season-best time in prelims. Austin Theobald (4:36.19) and Blake Brockman (4:41.30) finished in 14th and 16th place, respectively. Brockman swam a lifetime best in the prelims.
Jack Clouatre led Miami in the 200 IM, finishing fifth overall (1:50.12), which ranks eighth in Miami history since 2007. Clouatre swam his lifetime best in the prelims to rank fifth (1:49.53). Noah Barr finished 10th (1:51.22), Ryan Sego finished 14th (1:54.13) and Sam Curran finished 15th (1:54.18). Curran swam a lifetime best in the prelims while Sego posted a season-best in prelims and Barr posted a season-best in the finals.
In the 1-mtr dive, Sam Wiedemann finished third (262.75) and Karsten Dixon finished ninth (235.40), winning the consolation final.
On Friday, the swimmers will compete in the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast and the 100 back with prelims beginning at 11:30 a.m. and finals starting at 7:30 p.m. Diving prelims for the 3-mtr dive will take place at 2 p.m. Finals for the swimming events, 400 medley relay and the 3-mtr dive consolations will all be in the evening session.
