Penn State Visits Miami for Series Starting Thursday

The Miami University baseball team welcomes Penn State out of the Big Ten to McKie Field at Hayden Park for a three-game series this week beginning on Thursday. Due to weather concerns there have been some time changes. Thursday's game will begin at 4 p.m. Friday's contest starts at 2 p.m. and Sunday's first pitch is at 1 p.m. Kids will have the opportunity to run the bases after Saturday's game.

ABOUT PENN STATE
The Nittany Lions are 10-4 on the season. They went 1-2 last weekend on a trip to the Baltimore area. They fell to Navy, 2-1, on Friday. UMBC defeated Penn State, 10-5, on Saturday, but the Nittany Lions rebounded to Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-4, on Sunday. Penn State has been led offensively by senior infielder Gavin Homer. He is hitting .429 with one home run, 17 RBIs and 12 runs scored. The Nittany Lions have been winning with their pitching. They rank fourth in the nation with a 1.93 ERA. Friday's starter, junior right hander Bailey Dees, has a 1-1 record with a 1.14 ERA. He has 22 strikeouts in 23.1 innings pitched.

SERIES WITH PENN STATE
Miami holds a 2-1 lead in the all-time series with Penn State. They met each other three times during a week-long trip to Florida in 1998. On March 7, the RedHawks earned an 11-9 win. On March 11, the Nittany Lions came away with a 13-1 victory. Miami won the final meeting, 15-5, on March 14.

UP AHEAD
Miami will host another Big Ten team in Illinois for its midweek game next Wednesday, March 18. The RedHawks then begin Mid-American Conference play when they travel to Akron for a three-game series next weekend. On Friday, March 20 they will begin at 3 p.m. It will be a 1 p.m. start on both Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22.
