Miami Shutout by Omaha

The RedHawks fell to Omaha by an 8-0 margin on Sunday to wrap up play at the Rambler Rumble.

ROSEMONT, ILL. – The Miami University softball team (3-2) was shutout in five innings against Omaha to wrap up play at the Rambler Rumble on Sunday.

Miami 0, Omaha 8 (5 inn.)

Taylor Rathe began the game in the circle for the RedHawks, though all three Miami pitchers saw time.

Allie Cummins hit a two-out ground-rule double in the top of the first inning but was stranded at second.

Omaha put up three runs in the bottom of the first on a lead-off walk and back-to-back home runs before Brianna Pratt came into the game in relief of Rathe to finish off the inning.

The Mavericks added two runs on three singles in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead to 5-0 with one out. Courtney Vierstra entered the game to pitch and the Miami defense turned a double play on Vierstra's first batter to end the inning.

Omaha scored the final runs of the game in the fourth on a home run, two walks and a double. The RedHawks would respond with three hits in the top of the fifth inning but could not bring anyone home to extend the game to six innings.

Cummins and Morgan Lott each went 2-of-3 at the plate to lead Miami's offense. Both of Cummins' hits were doubles. Maclai Branson reached base twice in a 1-of-2 effort with a double and a walk.

UP AHEAD

The RedHawks are back in action on Friday, Feb. 21, when they travel to Chattanooga for a tournament. Miami plays the University of Las Vegas at noon before facing the host school at 2 p.m. The RedHawks also play Saint Francis, Southern Illinois – Edwardsville and Saint Louis while in Chattanooga.
