The RedHawks will host Xavier at Harper's Point Friday and WKU in Hamilton Saturday
OXFORD, Ohio - Coming off a two-match winning streak against a pair of local opponents, the Miami women's tennis team will make its home debut this weekend with a pair of matches. The RedHawks will host Xavier on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Harper's Point in Cincinnati (8675 E Kemper Rd) and Western Kentucky at 4 p.m. at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton.
LAST TIME OUT
The RedHawks (3-3) dominated Dayton on Saturday, taking down the Flyers by a score of 6-1. After a doubles sweep, the RedHawks won singles matches on courts one through five to claim the victory.
RECORDS CHECK
The sophomore duo of Brindtha Ramasamy and Laura Rico remains a formidable force for the 'Hawks at the top of the lineup. Ramasamy, coming off a three-match winning streak, holds a 4-2 dual play record at first singles while Rico is also 4-2 at second singles. The pair is also 3-1 as Miami's top doubles tandem.
SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS
Xavier enters the weekend with a 3-4 record, holding wins over Montana, Dayton, and Northern Kentucky. Miami and XU share two common opponents, with both squads defeating Dayton and falling to Purdue. The Musketeers return five of six singles players from their 22-3 squad last season, led by Ahmier Kyle who is 3-2 at first singles.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
WKU has already eclipsed their win total from last season with a 5-5 record at this point in the season. After a 3-17 season in 2019, the Hilltoppers have added a trio of transfers at the top three positions. Much of the WKU's success has come from the bottom of the singles lineup, as Lisa Friess at fourth singles is 7-2 and Lucia Diaz Saez at sixth singles is 6-2.
SERIES HISTORY
Miami's meetings with these two opponents went opposite ways last year, as the RedHawks fell to Xavier 6-1 but defeated Western Kentucky 5-0. The 'Hawks hold a slim 9-8 advantage all-time against Xavier and are undefeated against the Hilltoppers.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following this weekend's matches, Miami will head to West Virginia for matches against Winthrop and Marshall.
