Comeback Falls Short in Loss to Ohio

Kenzie Schmitz recorded a career high 13 points in the loss.
OXFORD – The Miami University women's basketball team fell 84-70 to the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday afternoon in Millett Hall as the team celebrated in annual Love.Honor.Care game in an effort to raise funds for Luna Cares.
The loss drops to the RedHawks to 11-14 overall and 4-9 in Mid-American Conference play. Ohio improves to 16-7 overall and leads the MAC East with a 9-3 record.
Ohio led 69-39 with 1:06 to play in the third quarter before a 23-5 RedHawk run cut Ohio's lead to 74-62 with 5:27 to play. During the run the Red and White were a perfect six-of-six from the floor, including three pointers from Lauren Dickerson and Kenzie Schmitz. Ohio answered with an 8-0 run of their own to end Miami's valiant comeback.
Miami was led by Dickerson's 16 points. She was joined by Schmitz (career-high 13 points), Peyton Scott (12 points) and Savannah Kluesner (10 points). Kluesner led the 'Hawks with eight rebounds and Abbey Hoff had a team-high seven assists.
Hoff scored five early points to spot the RedHawks a 9-6 lead, but Ohio recorded the next 10 to take a 16-9 advantage at the first media timeout of the contest. The Bobcats led 29-16 after 10 minutes of play.
Ohio extended its lead to 48-29 at the half.
Miami returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 22 in a 1 p.m. tilt at Kent State.
