EVANSVILLE – A tough shooting day plagued the Miami University women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in a 66-60 loss to Evansville. The loss closes out Miami's non-conference schedule as the RedHawks drop to 1-4, 0-1 MAC on the year. Evansville moves to 3-1 on the season.
Freshman
Katie Davidson recorded a career-high in points (22) and rebounds (13) while
Peyton Scott added 13 points and five assists to lead the RedHawks.
How It Happened:
- Four different RedHawks scored in the first five minutes of the game, helping Miami to an early 9-5 advantage.
- Evansville then went on a 13-0 run over the next 3:30 before Davidson drilled a baseline triple as the RedHawks trailed 18-12 after 10 minutes of play.
- Kenzie Schmitz got Miami to 18-15 with a three pointer out of the break, before the Purple Aces answered with an 11-1 run to lead the contest at 29-16.
- Davidson made back-to-back threes as the RedHawks clawed to within 30-24 at 1:54 to play in the second quarter. UE finished the second period on a 5-0 run and claimed a 35-24 advantage at halftime.
- Miami got as close as eight points in the third quarter, but a 5-0 run by the Purple Aces to conclude the third quarter gave UE its largest lead of the game, 50-35.
- Evansville extended its lead to 61-42 with 6:20 to play, before Miami mounted a valiant comeback.
- In a span of 2:08, Davidson made a pair of threes and Schmitz added five points as an 11-0 run pushed Miami to within eight at 61-53. The lead was just six (66-60) points following a three-point play from Scott, but the RedHawks could get no closer.
Game Notes:
- Davidson had a career-high in points (22), rebounds (13) and three pointers made (5).
- Miami came into Saturday's game as the best rebounding team in the MAC and did not disappoint. The RedHawks outrebounded the Purple Aces, 42-27. Miami finished the game with 24 second chance points off of 24 offensive rebounds.
- Schmitz matched a career-best with two made three pointers. She also played a career-high 34 minutes.
